How to make an Italian espresso coffeeIn Italy you don’t need fancy capsules to make a real, authentic espresso coffee right at your home!

Today I’ll show you how you can turn into an Italian barista just using a simple tool – the moka pot – and a few ingredients – finely ground coffee beans and water…

…and it’s a zero-waste method too, so much better for the environment!

If, like me, you’re no George Clooney, I give you an advice: forget your aluminium coffee capsules, and learn how to make an authentic Italian espresso coffee in the ONLY way Italians actually make it at home: using the moka pot!

What is the moka pot – are you asking? The moka pot is a coffee maker that brews coffee by passing boiling water pressurized by steam through ground coffee. It was invented by an Italian engineer named Alfonso Bialetti in 1933 and quickly became one of the staples of Italian culture. Get yourself one!

You will need (for 4 people):

  • a moka pot (zero-waste Italian coffee perculator)
  • water
  • finely ground coffee
Procedure:

  1. Put some water in the bottom chamber of the moka (up until the valve’s height);
  2. Insert the funnel-shaped filter and carefully put the ground coffee in the filter;
  3. Lock the top part of the moka in;
  4. Put the moka on the stove for about 4 minutes.

And that’s how it’s done in Italia!

Italian Food Boss special tip: Turn the heat off as soon as you see the “cream” on top of your coffee in the moka. This will avoid the “Stromboli effect” (spitting hot coffee like a volcano with the lava!!!)
