How to make Italian tiramisu? When you think of an Italian dessert, you probably think of tiramisu: that beautiful masterpiece made of Savoiardi (Italian ladyfingers), mascarpone cream and coffee.
Have you ever wondered: how do Italians really make tiramisu? This videorecipe will kill all your doubts! I have experimented on finding the best tiramisu recipe for years, tweaking ingredients amounts and procedures until I finally found it: the cremiest tiramisu ever!
When it comes to putting together this dessert, I truly believe that the extra ingredient here is LOVE: my grandmother used to make tiramisu for my mum, then my mother for me and now I like making it for my daugther. It is really a fantastic Italian culinary tradition!
Of course, as anything when we talk about food, feel free to experiment yourself if you would prefer a stronger coffee flavour, or more sugar – if your taste calls for a change, then you should probably test it!

How to make tiramisu - Authentic Italian recipe
Equipment
- bowls
- tray
- beaters
- whiskers
Ingredients
- 200 gr savoiardi
- 200 gr coffee
- 100 gr white sugar
- 500 gr mascarpone cheese
- 4 eggs
- dark cocoa powder
Procedure
- First thing first: separate egg whites and egg yolks. Place them in different bowls;
- Start with the egg yolks: add half of the sugar and whisk (using an electric beater) until the mix is soft and creamy.
- Slowly add the mascarpone and mix with the beater at every step. The mascarpone cheese should be all incorporated within 10 minutes or so;
- Wash and dry the beaters WELL, then move to the egg whites and whisk until they become a soft foam - this should take 5 minutes or so;
- Now, GENTLY scoop the egg whites foam one spoon at a time and mix it with the cream of egg yolks and mascarpone. Make sure you mix the 2 with slow movements from bottom to top. Your cream will be ready in a few minutes!
- We now need to assemble the Tiramisu: layer a bit of cream at the bottom of a rectangular tray;
- Dip each Savoiardo (Italian lady fingers) for 2 seconds in the coffee - this will create the bottom layer of our Tiramisu;
- After you lined your Savoiardi up, go wild with the cream on top! Sprinkle a bit of cocoa powder as well;
- It's time for the second layer of Savoiardi now. This time, dip each of the Savoiardo biscuits for 3 seconds in the coffee.
- Cover with cream and sprinkle more cocoa powder.
- You should leave the tiramisu to rest in the fridge for A MINIMUM of 2 hours, preferable longer... Perhaps overnight!
- ENJOY!
